Traditional Fishermen's Keps and Cloche Hats
We offer a small range of hand-knitted fisherman's haaf keps, and a shorter cloche hat, both knitted in pure Shetland wool in the same colours as the principal collections.
At the moment there are five patterns available to order, all fully lined. The sizes vary slightly from hat to hat. Cost is £135 ex VAT.
Please contact us and let us know your head size (circumference) and we will let you know which patterns are possible in your size.
Note that we keep no stock of these keps. If you want a hat quickly, we suggest that you look at the cloche hats below.
These hats are also fully lined for extra warmth. They are long, designed to come right down to your eyebrows and below the tips of your ears. Cost is £110 ex VAT. We have more of these in stock due to their popularity, and currently have the following styles available in heritage colours and also blue/white, Shetland black/white and rust/white to match the 2-colour knitwear range.
The styles vary in size, so again, please contact us and let us know your head size (circumference) and we will send you a photo(s) of the current choice which would fit you. Note that these photos will be updated from time to time, but you might see one on instagram or facebook which is not featured here; please contact us for more information.
"Every textures that BAKKA knitwear provides are incredibly unique, delicate, and beautiful. I fell in love with the knitwear at the first sight on Instagram. The wrist warmers I purchased on the other day was so fine that I was overwhelmed by not only its texture but also the feeling. Therefore I made a decision to sent an English email to purchase a kep at this time. Keps are not so popular in Japan indeed, but I wanted to have one since I had know keps. They looks very braw, particularly the colours, textures, and pompon. The kep I bought is also much greater than the photos. The thick liner makes me like winter even though I don't like cold weather. I deeply appreciate Mary's kindness to my awkward English. I hope you will keep the tradition alive in future as before."
"I bought two hand knitted cloche hats for my husband - he had a Shetland hat from one of our previous holidays in Shetland - so it was a very precious hat - but he lost it! I am pleased to say that the two new cloche hats have not disappointed- they are absolutely beautiful! They are really great quality wool - soft and comfortable to wear - and 100% unique! Mary has been really helpful as well, from the beginning of the buying process to the end! Mary has a very happy customer living in deepest, darkest France - no berets over here - the Shetland hats from BAKKA win hands down on comfort, warmth and looks! Bravo and thanks to Mary and her team! I certainly recommend her wonderful hats!"

"Very warm and cosy hat (there are two layers!). It doesn't itch or fall off, and fits perfectly under the hood of my coat! Love the colours."
